Karres en Brands opens office in Hamburg, Germany

The opening of our second office in Germany is the result of many years of collaborations and assignments. Our new office is located in Hamburg, Germany's second-largest city with a population of roughly 1.8 million. Both the city and region have unique economic opportunities and spatial challenges that match our expertise. The new office serves as a solid base for future assignments and supports our work in Germany.

Germany is not unfamiliar territory for Karres en Brands. We have worked on assignments across the border since the office was founded. In recent years, our assignments have gotten bigger in Germany and in particular in the Hamburg metropolitan region, where our agency has worked on prestigious projects, city planning consultations, and competitions. Our achievements include the transformation strategy for the Bergedorf-West district, the transformation and implementation of the renewed entrance area at the Friedhof Ohlsdorf cemetery, participation in the international Bauforum 2019 on the future of Hamburg’s main arteries, implementation of the Leuphana Campus in Lünenberg, finalist in the urban development and landscape competition Grasbrook, and in particular being assigned to Oberbillwerder ‘The Connected City’ – the second largest urban development in Hamburg after HafenCity.

‘The opening of our office in Hamburg is the result of years of assignments in Germany, collaborations with various German partner agencies and governments, and the enjoyment we get from working on German projects. Having an office in Hamburg helps us to perform our work more effectively on-site. We look forward to new developments and collaborations!’ - Karres en Brands management team

By opening a second office, we’re supporting our office in Hilversum and simplifying site visits, appointments, and workshops. This year got off to a good start with many new challenges and the continued development of existing projects. Some of these include being given the assignment to redevelop a former freight station in Duisburg, the design of a former British military base in Paderborn, and the continuation and implementation of Oberbillwerder as the most sustainable urban development.

The studio is located on the ground floor of the "Branthshof" building at Erdmannstraße 10  in the heart of the Ottensen district – a former industrial area that has become a vibrant district of Hamburg in the last ten years.
