karres+brands to Develop Manuals on Moscow City Spaces Revitalisation

In collaboration with Strelka KB, karres+brands is working on one of the most extensive and ambitious urban development programs currently underway in Moscow: the revitalization of all city spaces and recreational areas.

Aiming to become a vibrant, pedestrian friendly megacity for the future, Moscow is turning its attention towards the city space. In de past years the city has already been a global reference for urban development with an impressive list of ambitious projects. Among many others, the MyStreet program, has completely transformed the streets of the inner-city, creating pleasant, people oriented spaces and with the construction works nearing completion the local government’s attention is turning towards the open spaces.

In this context we are collaborating with Strelka KB to develop a series of manuals for public space design, which will form the basis for renovation of all open spaces in Moscow. The first in a series of seven books deals with general strategies and recommendations for improvement. With a focus on climate resilience and stormwater management, improving air quality and biodiversity the aim is to ultimately create a vibrant network of public recreational spaces accessible to all.

In the upcoming books we will set principle solutions, standards and key details for parks and green spaces, waterfronts, courtyards, plaza’s and metro station entrances as well as social/educational infrastructure. Ultimately the documents will act as a guide for the renovation process.

This is a huge opportunity to help steer the city’s development from extensive urban scale strategy all the way to detail design and ensure that simple solutions and interventions add up to make Moscow one of the leading megacities of tomorrow. A healthy city with a robust stormwater system, vibrant recreational spaces, and high biodiversity.

We are very excited to be working on this unique project with such exciting partner. Our ability to steer regional and urban strategic development with a strong understanding of detailing and craftsmanship makes this a perfectly tailored assignment.
