The German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) has pre-certified the masterplan Oberbillwerder with the highest level for sustainability, Platinum!
With this pre-certification, we have delivered the preconditions for Europe’s most sustainable urban plan. So far, there is no comparable urban district in Europe on the scale of Oberbillwerder, which has achieved the pre-certification in platinum. The plan has been subjected to 30 classifications, especially developed for city districts, in terms of ecological, economic, social, cultural, functional, technical as well as process-based quality.
Oberbillwerder takes sustainability beyond energy self-sufficiency and climate adaptation. Through an integrative approach to design, it looks into the future of the many layers of the city, from mobility to health from ecology to economy; to open a new chapter in sustainable urban development.
The masterplan has been elaborated by the Danish / Dutch design team Adept / Karres en Brands together with engineering offices of Transsolar and Buro Happold, for client IBA Hamburg.
The certificate will be awarded on the 12th of June at the Hamburger Architektursommers.
Dr. Dorothee Stapelfeldt, Senator for Urban Development and Housing: "Oberbillwerder should be a model district with near-natural living, architectural diversity and above all affordable for people of all income groups. I am very pleased about the professional recognition of the overall concept, which confirms that we are on the right path."
Karen Pein, Managing Director IBA Hamburg: "With the DGNB platinum pre-certification, Oberbillwerder is a clear signal to Europe for the development of new and large districts. We show that the development of new neighbourhoods on the outskirts can be extremely sustainable and futureproof. The pre-certification is now another incentive for us to realize this goal."
