Tonight we present our vision for smart and attractive energy landscapes – a landscape of desire.
Karres en Brands and three other design offices have worked on a design exercise posed by Aorta and PARK to turn fields of solar panels into a landscape of desire. This research originated from concerns over the consequences of changing land use with the development of solar panel fields. By making smart combinations between the energy transition and other major societal challenges, we can strengthen the landscape.
Our team looked at the river landscape to the north of IJsselstein and connected the energy transition with private aspirations and larger landscape ambitions. In this way, solar energy production is not an end, but a means for integrated landscape development. Solar power as a means for landscape development that connects the energy transition with water, biodiversity, cultural history, agriculture, subsidence, and recreation, while at the same time enabling new forms of landscape experience.
